Spacious with private hamam and fabulous views from shared terrace
3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms
Petraki Place III is on the first floor – one flight of original marble stairs – of a grand and elegant 19th century building very near to Galata Tower. The building entrance is on a characterful cobbled street, packed with intriguing boutiques and cafés. A few floors up on the roof-top, the shared terrace has gorgeous views across Golden Horn to the Old City. You’re invited to take your drinks or meals up to the roof terrace any time you like, for a very special experience of the city.
It’s about 3 minutes walk to Sishane metro station, less than 5 minutes walk to Tünel funicular and a short downhill walk to connect with the tram for Sultanahmet. Famous Istiklal Avenue is less than 5 minutes walk up the hill.
Petraki Place III boasts a unique hamam shower room where you can relax on a warmed marble slab to the sound of water flowing into the antique carved sink: perfect after a busy day exploring. In addition to the hamam shower room there’s a second large shower-room with marble counter-top and another roomy shower.
The three bedrooms are stylish: two doubles and one twin, each with chic velvet headboards and high quality crisp white linens. The twin beds can be pushed together if preferred. The bedrooms are arranged around a large and atmospheric central hall with comfy seating, great for snuggling up with a good book.
The open plan kitchen-living area is very spacious and sociably laid out. The brand new kitchen is chic and well-equipped, with high-end appliances including a dish-washer. Freshly-upholstered vintage sofa and chairs invite you to relax and there’s a bar table for snacking. A double doorway leads into a separate dining room with a large oval dining table and chairs.
Original dark wooden floorboards give a warm feel and all doors are elegant dark wood originals, adding lots of character and spirit. The ceilings are extremely high giving a relaxing sense of space.
This apartment is a very big 130 m2 in total, serene and restful with a quiet, solid grace. The bedrooms comfortably accommodate six people and a seventh/child on a fold-out bed in the master bedroom is possible.
Guests will have the complete privacy of the entire apartment. The roof terrace, shared with all apartments in the building, is available for your careful use at any time.
In the same building we also offer Petraki Place I, Petraki Place II and Petraki Place IV apartments. Two or all three of these apartments together are ideal for a large group.
If I could give more than five stars, I would…
So you want to go to Istanbul. You want to experience the normal world of the people who live in Istanbul. You don’t want a hotel, but you do want the comfort offered by a hotel. Seriously, this is your home in Istanbul. Petraki III, one of the newest apartments that have been renovated by the team at Istanbul Place, is a stunning experience combining new/modern Istanbul with the old/historical experience of a personal hamam.
It would be a difficult challenge to find a place more comfortable and unique than this three bedroom apartment. The beds are firm, yet oh so comfortable after a day of walking the seven hills of Istanbul. We even read the labels on the pillows to figure out where we could find them. The kitchen is well laid out, and equipped with all of the tools you need to try your hand at some of the Turkish dishes you experienced just a few steps away. But again, let me explain about the hamam. First of all, almost no one in Istanbul now even considers a private hamam as a normal thing. We mentioned this hamam to a young Turkish architecture student who was waiting table locally, and he couldn’t even believe that a private home would have one. Secondly, it is the height of decadent luxury to relax on the warm stone table as long as you like, while knowing that you can fall asleep, or bathe, or both… on your own schedule. It also makes for a nice romantic surprise for your partner….
The location is superb, the service is lovely, attentive, informative and helpful. There is a charming salep shop downstairs if you want a traditional Turkish drink, a Turkish towel shop at the corner staffed by very clever students, and a view of the city to toast from the terrace. Yes, I know that I am raving, but truly, this is a find… in a city of finds. I know I will find myself back in Istanbul, and I know that we will always make an effort to enjoy this apartment!
